May 13, 2024 The Santa Fe Opera and Northern New Mexico College partner to create internship program A unique partnership between the Santa Fe Opera and Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is giving Northern students the chance to experience backstage production firsthand. A new internship program provides mentoring and hands-on training to NNMC Film & Digital Media Arts (FDMA) students through shadowing the people who design and build the sets, props, and costumes.
Apr 30, 2024 Northern New Mexico College and Española Valley High School Students Engineer Glove to Help Mitigate Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms Students from Northern New Mexico College’s (NNMC) engineering program and Española Valley High School’s (EVHS) Math, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program are applying engineering skills they are studying to a project that could significantly improve the lives of Parkinson’s patients. Under the direction and mentorship of Dr. Steve Cox, Associate Professor/Engineering Technology at NNMC, and Española Valley High teachers Janice Badongen Patal-e and Lyne Salero, the students are designing a glove that applies small brief vibrations to the fingertips to alleviate symptoms of the disease.
Mar 04, 2024 Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller engages with students at Northern New Mexico College Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller visited Northern New Mexico College on February 23, 2024, to engage with our students in their classrooms and during a panel discussion. The mayor donated a retired city bus to the college, which will provide a vehicle for students taking Northern’s CDL training to practice their driving skills, and recruited for job opportunities in Albuquerque. NNMC and ABQ signed an MOU to work collaboratively to establish internship and career opportunities for NNMC students with the City of Albuquerque.
Feb 22, 2024 Northern New Mexico College Associate Professor David Lindblom Explores Opportunities for Students at the 2023 Media Educators Conference The television industry has received its fair share of criticism about its lack of diversity, according to David Lindblom, associate professor in Northern New Mexico College’s (NNMC) Film & Media Arts program. However efforts to address that were evident at the Television Academy Foundation’s 2023 Media Educators Conference he recently attended.
“One of the first things you notice is that the TV industry has been paying attention to bringing forth women, minorities and all people that have been marginalized,” Lindblom said. “At every conference event there was some indication of this effort.”
